RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Factors influencing the college choice process for students of color and admissions practices in higher education

PERSONAL PROSE:

Ms. Hayden is a doctoral student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program at Virginia Tech. Currently she serves as the Special Assistant for Pre-College/Pipeline Initiatives reporting to the Assistant Provost/Director for Academic Support Programs.

Before beginning the doctoral program, Melanie was the Assistant Director for Academic Support Programs in Virginia Tech’s Center for Academic Enrichment and Excellence. She also served as Assistant Director for Admissions at Radford University (Radford, VA) prior to coming to VT. Melanie has a strong passion to assist students and their families during the college choice process. Much of her research has focused on admissions practices in higher education and those factors that influence the college choice process for students of color.
